Flights from/to Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN) to/from Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (DJE)
In most of the cases, you need to fly first to Tunis and then take the domestic flight to Djerba. However, you may find direct flights to Djerba, especially from Europe. Tunis Air operates the international flights and Tunis Air Express ensures around 3 daily domestic flights. If you have difficulties in booking flights from your countries, please let us know so we can do it on your behalf.
Transfers from/to Djerba Airport to/from SWDCC2022 Venue
Please note if you are passing through Tunis-Carthage international airport, you need to collect your luggage, even if registered directly to Djerba airport, pass the customs and then go to the domestic flights counter. When you arrive in Djerba airport, the organizers, recognized by either IRA or SWDCC2022 signs, will transfer you to the hotel. In exceptional cases, please take a taxi (yellow color) to drive you to the hotel. It costs around 10 to 15 Euros.
Visas
If you need an entry visa to Tunisia, please consult the nearest embassy to your country here, to enquire on the needed formalities.
Field Trip
A post-conference field trip will be organized on 17 June 2022. It will include:
    • A visit of IRA headquarters:

Attending the ceremony of celebration of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought where the 1st Prof. Khatteli’s prize for excellence in research and innovation will be awarded (Session 2022 theme: Combating desertification),

    • A field tour of the main natural and agro-ecological zones of the region:

Djerba Island; Southeastern coasts: lagunes, roman sea road); Plain of Jeffara: olive tree plantations, irrigated fields, etc.); Mountains of Beni Khedache: picturesque views, traditional water harvesting, troglodytes, etc.).

Language
Arabic is the national language. French and English are widely spoken. German is also commonly used in the hotels.
Currency and Banking Services
The unit of currency is Tunisian Dinar (TND). The Dinar comes in the following denominations:
  • Notes: TND: 5, 10, 20 and 50.
  • Coins: TND: 0.5, 1, 5 and Coins: Millimes (1000 millimes = 1 TND): 10, 20, 50, 100, 200.
  • Exchange rate: 1 Euro equals 3.24 TND; 1 US$ equals 3.10 TND (May 2022).
All banks and main post offices have a foreign exchange counter and ATMs. Banks at the airport operate a 24-hour service.
